mom always told me i was special.

for as long as i can remember i've had this weird extra-sensory thinger. but it goes beyond thinking of a song one minute and hearing it on the radio the next. for example, a couple of years ago, for no reason, i started thinking of an acquaintance of mine's mother that i had met only once a couple of years ago. she was an interesting woman, and i would've perhaps been more intimidated of her had she not paid me a nice compliment. "you have a cute profile." a somewhat random compliment, but i was happy to receive it from such a well-bred woman. a few days after reminiscing about my initial and only meeting with her, i got a phone call from my mother telling me that this woman had been killed in a tragic motorcycle accident.

now, most of my esp experiences have not been so tragic and eerie. the latest episode, however, is just so completely detailed and random that i nearly called up the psychic friends network for an application. the episode happened last week. it was a perfectly normal morning. i was blow drying my hair, the same way i have done for a decade. i start thinking about a boy i went to high school with. this boy had downs syndrome, and i remember how advanced he seemed for a young man with a disability. he had a good job, and he had a steady girlfriend who also had downs syndrome. i started to wonder if the couple had ever married. turn off my blow dryer. i had left the tv on in the living room, and i could vaguely hear the local news doing a special interest piece. i step into the living room to catch the last bit of the piece... a story on a local young man with downs syndrome and his girlfriend, who also has downs syndrome, getting married.
